Remarks and suggestions are always welcome

I wish I could get msx audio sound without an actuall extension... that would have saved me a lot of frustration.

All these tests give more infos : for the 3 concerned games, it works in openMSX on a non C-BIOS machine when you use a 'good' dump of the Panasonic rom ... but it seems that the good working dumps are hacked versions .... strange, isn'it ?!

I've also noticed that the game Family Stadium hangs with C-BIOS

Try that in openMSX. I can't get it to work, as I wrote in my previous post.

Ah, I missed your reply. So, it only works well with a non-good dump? (I.e.: not the one from GoodMSX)

By the way: Family Stadium runs fine with the latest C-BIOS from CVS. Maybe something was fixed in the meantime that caused the problem.

Manuel, I'll send you the 4 dumps of the MSX-AUDIO Panasonic rom.

With the 2 hacked versions, it should work.

OK, but the same happens on BlueMSX?

There seems to be going something wrong then. Maybe BiFi can check out what exactly is hacked in those ROMs.

(edited post)

Actually, no any problem in blueMSX. By error, I had selected the MSX-AUDIO switch, so it was normal to get PSG with non-hacked roms.

When this switch is not selected, it works perfectly, also with the non-hacked roms .

So, it means that the problem in openMSX concerns the switch.

Here's the explanations about the hacked versions :

MSX-Audio full ROM with SYNTHE disabled on boot
-----------------------------------------------
Modified by Fabio R. Schmidlin <sd_snatcher@yahoo.com>

This file contains the full ROM of the Panasonic FS-CA1 MSX-Audio, but slightly modified to never boot the annoying SYNTHE Music editor on the boot. You can still use the editor by typing "CALL SYNTHE" on BASIC.

It doesn't look like so, but the blocks of 16Kb are not swapped. The cartridge signature 4142h really must be at 4000h. This is a MegaROM, 16Kb pages, switched at adresses 7FFEH and 7FFFH.

MSX-Audio BIOS
--------------
Ripped by Fabio R. Schmidlin <sd_snatcher@yahoo.com>

This file contains the MSX-Audio BIOS of the Panasonic FS-CA1 without the annoying SYNTHE program. It's a 32KB plain ROM, starting at 0000h, so it must be mapped to frames 0 and 1 (0000h-3FFFh and 4000h-7FFFh) of your cartridge.

It doesn't look like so, but the two blocks of 16Kb are not swapped. The cartridge signature 4142h really must be at 4000h.

Manuel, read again my post about blueMSX, I've edited it (my first tests were wrong)

I think that the problem in openMSX is the implementation of the MSX-AUDIO switch.

Please add it to the tracker on http://cbios.openmsx.org and we will take a look at it and see if there is any miracle we can work for you without compromising the integrity of the c-bios.

Else feel free to program it yourself and submit a patch to any of the c-bios devlopes.

openMSX hasn't got the switch implemented, it is always in the OFF state. But, AFAIK, this means that just the internal software is not booted, which means that the games should still find and use the Y8910 device.

Maybe we should ask Wouter to take a look at this.

Vampier: it's not a C-BIOS issue.

By doing more tests with blueMSX, I come also to the conclusion that C-BIOS is probably not concerned by this problem.

With C-BIOS 0.21, I get the following results with the game in slot 2, the Panasonic MSX-AUDIO in slot 1 and the MSX-AUDIO switch in OFF position :

- Xevious : MSX-AUDIO !
- Family Stadium : hangs .... (but should be fixed in CVS version, so I suppose that MSX-AUDIO is accessible)
- Labyrinth : perpetual reboot (but this game has already problems without MSX-AUDIO when using C-BIOS)

As we can hear MSX-AUDIO with Xevious, we can be optimist about C-BIOS working to detect presence of Panasonic MSX-AUDIO rom.

Just checked the 3 rom games with MSX-AUDIO in blueMSX.

With the new C-BIOS (test version), the 3 games boot without any problem and use MSX-AUDIO if the game is in slot 2 and the Panasonic MSX-AUDIO rom is in slot 1 !

:D

Yep that's why I did sent you the new version... testing with outdated software sucks ;) Next time just ask for a new version.. it would have saved you and us a lot of time.
